IT for Construction
Connected Technology for Project Success
Construction doesn't happen in one place, and your technology has to keep up. We keep your people connected and supported wherever they're working, from head office to a site cabin, and we look after the specialist software your projects depend on.
UNDERSTANDING THE SECTOR
We understand how construction firms operate
Construction businesses don't fit the standard office mould. You've got teams spread across head office, multiple sites and temporary cabins, often in places where a decent internet connection is hard to come by. You depend on specialist software for estimating, project management and design, and you're moving large files and drawings between people who are rarely in the same building. Add tight margins and a fast-moving pipeline, and technology that half works simply won't do.
WHAT TO EXPECT
What does IT support for a construction firm involve?
The office side is familiar. Keeping laptops, email and servers running, fixing problems quickly, patching and securing everything, and getting new starters set up without losing them a day.
Then there's everything that happens away from the office. A site cabin needs a working connection before anyone can do anything, and a standard line often isn't an option, so your provider needs to be comfortable with 4G, 5G and satellite broadband rather than treating them as exotic. Kit gets used in dusty, wet, mobile conditions and it fails more often than office hardware, so replacement planning matters. And your team is spread out, which means support has to reach someone in a portacabin as easily as someone at a desk.
The software is the other half of it. Your estimating, project management and design tools carry the commercial risk of the business, so a provider who only knows Microsoft 365 will hand you back to the vendor every time something goes wrong. Large drawing files have to move between people quickly and securely, and slow file transfer costs real time when a deadline is close.
So it's worth asking a provider how they'd get a remote site online, whether they've supported your estimating package before, and what happens when a site needs help on a Saturday. We've done all three, and we're happy to talk through how.
HOW WE HELP
IT support that reaches every site
We take on the running of your IT so your people can get on with the job, whether they're at their desk or on site. Most support is handled remotely, so it makes little difference how many locations you have, and we build in onsite visits when they're genuinely needed. We keep your systems secure and up to date, replace kit before it fails, and take on the bigger projects like setting up a new site or moving to the cloud. See our managed IT services and IT helpdesk services.
CONNECTIVITY
Connectivity that works, even in awkward places
A site office with no usable internet stops work before it starts. We design and manage connectivity across your sites, and we're not afraid of creative fixes when a standard line isn't an option, from 4G and 5G solutions to satellite broadband for genuinely remote locations. Your teams stay joined up to head office and to each other wherever the work takes them.
SPECIALIST SOFTWARE
We support the software your projects run on
Your estimating, project management and design tools matter as much as your email, so we take the time to learn them. That way, when something goes wrong, we can actually help instead of leaving you to chase the vendor. We also make sure large files and drawings move between your people quickly and securely.
CLIENT STORY
How Snape Group gained a trusted IT adviser
Snape Group is a construction firm with more than 50 years behind it, operating across the South West and Midlands through several companies. Their previous provider had gone stale, with no appetite for forward planning, so they commissioned an IT review led by our MD, Iain Godding. Three years on, we handle day-to-day support across all their offices and help them plan strategically, taking the time to understand how construction actually differs from a standard office.

“It was never about price. It was the responsiveness, enthusiasm and proactiveness that were the drivers of our change.”

Credentials that do the talking
We hold ISO/IEC 27001:2022 (UKAS) and Cyber Essentials Plus, we're a Microsoft Solutions Partner, and we're working towards B Corp certification. More than 200 UK businesses trust us with their technology, backed by 24/7 monitoring and an average response time under 30 minutes in business hours.
HOW WE CAN HELP
Solutions construction firms rely on most
Most construction clients build on managed IT services, with connectivity and cloud enablement keeping sites and head office joined up. Our IT helpdesk supports teams wherever they're working, cyber protection and compliance keeps your data and projects safe, and our IT consultancy helps you plan the bigger moves.
WHERE WE WORK
Supporting construction and professional services firms across the UK
We're based in the South West and work with construction and professional services businesses right across the UK. Snape Group alone runs from Birmingham down to North Somerset and across to Oxford, which is fairly typical of how our clients are spread. Most support is delivered remotely, so the number of sites makes little difference to how quickly we can help, and we come out for site setups, hardware work and planning conversations.
Site work has taught us things we now use everywhere. The satellite connection that got a remote charity site online came straight out of solving the same problem on a construction site. See where we work across the UK, or browse all the sectors we support.
COMMON QUESTIONS
Frequently asked questions
What does IT support for a construction firm involve?
The office side covers the usual ground: laptops, email, servers, security and quick help when something breaks. The site side is where it differs, covering connectivity in awkward locations, hardware that takes a beating, support that reaches a portacabin as easily as a desk, and proper support for your estimating and project management software.
Can you support temporary site offices and remote locations?
Yes. We set up connectivity and support for site offices, including creative options like 4G, 5G or satellite broadband where a standard line isn't available.
How quickly can you get a new site online?
It depends on what's available at the location. A 4G or 5G setup can often be running within days, and satellite is usually a similar timescale. A fixed line takes longer, so if you know a site is coming, tell us early and we'll have something ready for day one.
Do you understand construction-specific software?
Yes. We take the time to learn the estimating, project management and design tools your firm relies on, so we can support them properly.
Can you support teams across multiple sites?
That's a common setup for our clients. Most support is delivered remotely, so the number of sites makes little difference, and we visit in person when it's needed.
Can you help move large files and drawings between our people?
Yes. We make sure your teams can share large files and drawings quickly and securely, wherever they are.
Can you help us meet the IT requirements in a client or framework pre-qualification?
Yes. Main contractors and public sector frameworks increasingly ask for Cyber Essentials or evidence of how you protect data. We put the controls in place and help you evidence them, and we hold ISO/IEC 27001:2022 and Cyber Essentials Plus ourselves. See cyber protection and compliance.
How much does IT support for a construction firm cost?
It usually works out as a monthly figure per user, with site connectivity priced separately because it varies so much by location. A short discovery call is the quickest way to get an accurate number, and it costs you nothing.
Can you help us get off a server in the head office?
Yes, and it usually pays off quickly in a business with several sites, because cloud systems reach a site cabin as easily as a desk. We plan the move so your files, drawings and email come with you and your team keeps working while it happens. See cloud enablement.
We already have an IT provider. How difficult is it to switch?
Less difficult than most businesses expect. We take over in stages so nothing goes dark, plan around your calendar, and handle the conversation with your outgoing provider if you'd rather not have it.
We have someone looking after IT internally. Can you work alongside them?
Yes. Plenty of our clients keep an internal IT person and use us for out-of-hours cover, site setups and specialist projects. That's what co-managed IT is for.
Do you supply and manage hardware, including kit that gets used on site?
Yes. We specify, supply and manage your hardware, and we plan replacement before things fail rather than after. Site kit takes more punishment than office kit, so we account for that in the replacement cycle.
Do you work with professional services firms as well as construction?
Yes. Architects, surveyors, engineering consultancies and similar firms share a lot with construction, including project-based work, specialist software and people who are often out of the office. The approach is the same.
How do we get started?
It starts with a short discovery call. We learn about your business, point you to the best first opportunity and suggest a practical next step, with no obligation.
