Co-managed IT for UK SMEs with an internal IT team
We work alongside your internal IT person — taking 24/7 monitoring, deep cyber-security and specialist projects off their desk. They keep day-to-day. You keep continuity. Everyone sleeps.
Who this is for
You have IT people. You just need more reach.
Co-managed IT is for businesses that have, and want to keep, internal IT — but can’t carry every responsibility on one or two pairs of hands.
Your internal IT person is good — but overstretched.
They keep the lights on, but 24/7 cover, patching, security monitoring and project work all land on one desk. Holidays and sickness become single points of failure.
Your team needs specialist skills it doesn’t have in-house.
Deep cyber-security, Microsoft 365 governance, cloud architecture and incident response need specialists you can’t justify hiring full-time — but can’t afford to be without.
You’re growing faster than your IT team can scale.
Headcount, sites and compliance demands are outpacing what your current IT capacity can carry, and hiring lags months behind the need.
The split
Who owns what
A working co-managed split keeps your team on the work they’re best at and closest to, and hands us the work that needs scale, specialism or round-the-clock cover. We agree the exact line together, write it down, and review it quarterly.

How we work
Alongside your team — not over the top of it
A named Technical Account Manager
Your IT lead gets a peer, not a ticket queue — a single accountable contact who knows your environment and joins your planning.
Shared tooling, one view
Your internal team logs into the same RMM, ticketing and SIEM platforms we run for 200+ UK clients. No black box, no parallel systems.
Quarterly business reviews
We sit down with your IT lead — and, where it helps, the owner — to review the split, the risks and the roadmap, and adjust as you grow.

What it costs
Honest, scope-led pricing
Co-managed typically runs £1,000–£4,000 per month for a 20–100 user UK SME, depending on how the responsibilities split, plus project budget for the heavier lifting. There’s no single per-user number for co-managed — it moves with the line you draw.
As a benchmark, our fully managed service is around £39/user/month. Co-managed usually lands below that, because you only pay us for the parts your team hands over.
Co-managed FAQs
Common questions about co-managed IT
What is co-managed IT and how does it differ from outsourced IT?
Co-managed IT keeps your internal IT person or team in place and adds an MSP alongside them, splitting the responsibilities between you. Fully outsourced (managed) IT replaces the internal function entirely — the MSP runs everything. Co-managed suits businesses that have, and want to keep, internal IT knowledge but need extra capacity, round-the-clock cover or specialist skills they can’t sustain solo.
How does the cost of co-managed compare to in-house only or fully outsourced?
For a 20–100 user UK SME, co-managed typically runs £1,000–£4,000 per month depending on how the responsibilities split, plus project budget for larger pieces of work. That usually sits below the loaded cost of a second in-house hire, and below full outsourcing at our benchmark of around £39/user/month — because you only pay us for the parts your team hands over. We lay out the honest maths for all three models in our co-managed blog.
How is the responsibility split decided between our internal team and the MSP?
We start with a short discovery to map what your internal team does well and enjoys, and where they’re stretched or lack specialist depth. Your team typically keeps day-to-day support, vendor relationships and business knowledge; we take 24/7 monitoring, security operations, patching, disaster recovery and specialist projects. The split is written down, reviewed quarterly, and flexes as your needs change.
Can we move between models over time?
Yes. Many clients start co-managed and shift the balance as they grow — handing us more when the internal team is stretched, or taking work back as they hire. Some move from co-managed to fully managed when an IT person leaves, or the other way as they build an internal team. The model is designed to flex without re-procuring.
How do you onboard a co-managed engagement when we already have an internal IT team in place?
Onboarding is built around your existing team, not around replacing it. We document the current environment with your IT lead, agree the responsibility split, connect our tooling (RMM, ticketing, SIEM) so both sides share one view, and introduce a named Technical Account Manager as your IT lead’s peer. Day-to-day continues uninterrupted while we layer monitoring and security in behind the scenes.
What happens if our internal IT person leaves?
Because we already run your monitoring, security, documentation and tooling, a departure doesn’t leave you exposed. We can hold the fort, brief a replacement, or temporarily shift to fully managed while you re-hire — without the knowledge walking out of the door. That continuity is one of the main reasons SMEs choose co-managed.
